About Us

NAHVI is a relatively young organisation; it was established in 2001 by a group of parents and professionals who identified the need for a service that would specifically address the needs of visually impaired young adults who may also have additional disabilities. NAHVI offers support to residents taking into account their individual abilities and limitations combined with the impact of visual impairment and or additional disabilities on their daily lives. Until 2001 the only options available to our young people were to live in a residential environment which though it may cater for additional disabilities may not cater for visual impairment issues or remain at home with parents.

  • Are accessible; the physical environment and decor of each house takes into account the needs of those living there, e.g. Choice of equipment, furnishing , use of lighting, contrasting and tactile materials
  • Have the staffing and resources to enable residents to live as full a life as possible ensuring that each of them has the level of support he/she requires in order to achieve their fullest potential.
